Valerie Z. Wicks specializes in employment, civil rights, and complex litigation. She has successfully argued cases in federal court ranging from single-plaintiff sexual harassment matters to First Amendment challenges to state law. She is a member of the Maine Federal Court’s Local Rules Advisory Committee. Before joining the firm, Valerie clerked for Chief Judge Nancy Torresen of the United States District Court for Maine. She has also worked as a lawyer at a leading law firm in New York City. Valerie graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School where she earned distinction in employment discrimination and labor law and served as an Associate Editor for the Michigan Journal of Gender & Law. Prior to law school, Valerie taught first grade in Brooklyn, New York and earned a Master of Science in Education from Bank Street College of Education. She graduated summa cum laude from Bates College.
