Carol J. Garvan specializes in employment, civil rights, and complex litigation. She was selected for SuperLawyers in 2020 and named a Superlawyers “Rising Star” from 2014-2017. She has won victories in important workers’ rights cases including class action settlements of $5 million and $1.45 million, and individual case settlements of over $1 million. She serves by appointment on the Maine Federal Court’s Merit Selection Panel and its Court Operations Advisory Committee.

Carol graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and earned her law degree from U.C. Berkeley School of Law, where she served as an Editor of the California Law Review and the Gender, Law & Justice journal. She clerked for Judge Kermit Lipez of the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Mark Simons of the California Court of Appeal. Before law school, Carol taught middle school reading in Oakland, California. She lives with her husband and daughters in Gardiner, Maine.
